We do Business Consulting for firms that have outgrown their founding playbook
If your revenue sits between £1m and £20m and your team keeps hitting the same ceiling, we can probably help. If you need a slide deck to impress investors but have no intention of changing how you operate, we are not the right fit. We work with owner-managed businesses, family firms and PE-backed companies across England who want to fix something specific: margin erosion, a stalled product line, a leadership gap, or a supply chain that costs more than it should.
Engagements completed
Since we opened in Stark-le-Cummings in 2019. Each one scoped to a single measurable outcome.
Typical project length
Short enough to keep momentum, long enough to embed change. Some projects run six weeks; a few have stretched to five months.
Median fee per project
We publish this because vague pricing wastes everyone's time. Actual fees depend on scope, team size and travel.
Why most consulting fails mid-market firms
Large consultancies send junior analysts. Solo advisors lack the bandwidth to follow through. Mid-market companies end up with a report that gathers dust. We sit in a different spot: a four-person core team, each with at least fifteen years in operations, finance or commercial strategy, supported by a bench of specialists we bring in when a project demands sector-specific depth.
Our engagements start with a week of diagnostic interviews, not a proposal template. We talk to the people who actually do the work, not just the board. That first week usually surfaces the real problem, which is rarely the one we were briefed on.
Every recommendation comes with an implementation plan, a named owner inside your business, and a review date. We stay involved until the change sticks or we refund the final milestone fee. That clause has been triggered once in five years.
Capability map
| Discipline | What we actually do | Typical trigger | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Operational review | Map workflows, identify waste, redesign processes and train your team on the new standard | Margins falling despite stable revenue | 8–12 weeks |
| Financial modelling | Build scenario models for investment, acquisition or restructuring decisions | Board needs numbers before committing capital | 3–5 weeks |
| Commercial strategy | Pricing architecture, channel mix, customer segmentation and go-to-market planning | New product launch or stagnant pipeline | 6–10 weeks |
| Leadership alignment | Facilitated sessions to resolve strategic disagreements and set 12-month priorities | Founders or co-directors pulling in different directions | 2–4 weeks |
| Exit readiness | Prepare the business for sale: clean financials, reduce owner-dependency, build the data room | Owner wants to sell within 18 months | 12–20 weeks |
How an engagement unfolds
Scoping call (free, 30 minutes)
We listen. You describe the situation. If we think we can help, we outline what a diagnostic week would look like and what it costs. No obligation, no follow-up spam.
Diagnostic week
On-site interviews with your team, review of financials and operations data, competitor scan if relevant. We deliver a written diagnostic with three to five prioritised recommendations. Fee: £4,200 fixed.
Project proposal
If you want to act on the diagnostic, we propose a project with defined milestones, deliverables and fees. You approve or negotiate. Nothing starts until you sign.
Implementation support
We work alongside your people, not instead of them. Weekly check-ins, monthly progress reports, and a final review session at the end of the engagement.
Handover and follow-up
All materials, models and documentation transfer to you. We schedule a 90-day check-in call at no extra charge to see whether the changes held.
Common questions
Do you work with startups?
Rarely. Our methods assume an existing revenue stream and an established team. Pre-revenue businesses usually need a different kind of support, and we would rather say so upfront than take a fee we cannot justify.
What industries do you cover?
Manufacturing, professional services, wholesale distribution and construction make up about 80% of our client base. We have also worked with food production businesses and a regional logistics firm. If your sector is outside that list, the scoping call will tell us quickly whether our experience transfers.
Can you replace our FD on an interim basis?
We have done this twice, both times for firms between finance directors. It is not our core offer, but if the need is urgent and the scope is clear, we can discuss it.
